Opportunity Knocks! Our Real Estate Blog

So you've saved up your down payment, rates are about as low as you think they'll go, and you're ready to start home shopping, but it's November – and your pals are telling you that you've missed the home buying window for the year.

Is that really true? In this installment of Buying Advice, we'll look at what buyers can expect from the housing market at the end of the year. What are the pros and cons of buying a home while most of the country is focused on buying and wrapping gifts?
Also, where should you turn when shopping for a mortgage? Is a broker a good choice? There is so much competition, shop around! We suggest using a local lender.
Holiday house hunting
Shopping for a home in November and December might be somewhat less than ideal, as there are fewer homes to choose from and not as many open houses to peruse in the season's cold, wet weather.
Find a new home in the perfect neighborhood:
But a couple of things are working to your advantage, says Bob McWilliams of Champion Realty in Annapolis, Md. There will be less competition for any house you do find and fall in love with, and less competition should translate into a bigger discount. Prices are typically at a 12-month low in December, according to Realtor.com.
"You don't have to be as aggressive with that initial first offer," McWilliams says.
Indeed, sellers willing to keep their house on the market in winter may be more flexible in negotiating the terms of an offer; extending the time to close or agreeing to other concessions.

Leave nothing to the imagination for potential burglars...

I know Japan is full of weird things, cars, toys, and now even houses. The house is like a giant play pen from Mc Donnalds. It truly leaves nothing to the imagination for potential burglars. The house is not a “concept” house it is an actual, living home designed by Sou Fujimoto Architects. It features a metal structure with glass around the entire house to guarantee you will have no privacy.
According to the designer, “the house is like a single space, but each room is also a space of it’s own, the clients said they wanted to live like nomads inside their home.” So with that in mind, he designed a home that forces the people to move from one room to the next in a fluid motion. Not going to lie though, the house actually looks pretty bad ass, it could be the fact that it’s very clean, or the fact that it’s rare and unique, but regardless of what it is. I think I would live in it, for a summer or two. Would you live in a home like this?

THE ROYAL TREATMENT...

Why is it when you go into a department store and just want a peaceful shopping experience there are sales clerks smothering you like you were on a used car lot on Saturday afternoon? Ever went into a Wal-Mart when you want to get a can of paint mixed up the paint technicians are always at lunch, even at 9 a.m.? Have you ever wanted to literally scrape your tastebuds off  because no fast food restaurant EVER gets  your mayo/cheese only hamburger order correct? Or they just remove the onions and tomatoes from the bun and you can still taste them as if you are eating the nixed items anyway? Well, one place I have always gotten superb quality food and customer service is at Chick Fil A! How about you? This is the universalizing nature of good restaurant hospitality – every guest should receive equal kindness and equally good service, period.  No exceptions. Not only do the employees say "My Pleasure" to every single solitary response, they do it with a genuine smile. Even if their chicken wasn't the BOMB, I would probably frequent this establishment because
customer service is monumentally a struggle in most businesses.
